Fallout Is Getting a TV Show from the Team Behind Westworld

War may never change in the bleak, irradiated dystopia of the Fallout universe, but the way you’re going to experience it is: Amazon Studios is teaming up with Bethesda to bring the beloved RPG series to television, and it’s tapped the minds of Westworld to do so.

Deadline reports that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy will help the series—about scrupulous survivors of a global nuclear war in the late 21st century that has decimated an alt-universe America, emerging from underground “Vaults” to roam the wastelands and make a name for themselves—come to TV with their Kilter Films production house.

Todd Howard, one of the lead architects of both the Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises at Bethesda Game Studios, will help oversee the series alongside Bethesda Softworks’ James Altman.

Amazon has already committed to a series order for the show, and in lieu of offering any further information about the series, has released a teaser in the vein of Fallout’s faux-retro ‘50s aesthetic: We’ll bring you more on Amazon’s plans for the Fallout universe’s jump to TV as and when we learn them.

YouTube TV raises its rates 30 percent

YouTube TV is raising its price to $65/month, up 30 percent from its previous $50/month level.

In a blog post, YouTube TV’s Christian Oestlien wrote: We don’t take these decisions lightly, and realize how hard this is for our members.

That said, this new price reflects the rising cost of content and we also believe it reflects the complete value of YouTube TV, from our breadth of content to the features that are changing how we watch live TV.

It’s probably not coincidental that today YouTube TV is also adding 14 new CBSViacom channels to its base service.

Whether it’s over-the-top services like YouTube TV, or pure streaming plays like Netflix and Hulu and Disney+ and the rest, in the end the TV industry is going to work very hard to make sure that people still pay about the same for streaming entertainment as they used to do for cable.

WarnerMedia puts ‘for sale’ sign on CNN Center in Atlanta

NEW YORK (AP) — WarnerMedia said Monday it will sell the iconic CNN Center in downtown Atlanta, but that it doesn’t mean the network will abandon the city.

The network will consolidate its Atlanta workforce in a series of offices across town, the same office campus where CNN was first located upon its founding by Ted Turner in the early 1980s.

The company said it plans to lease the CNN Center offices for five years as its move to the so-called Techwood campus is completed.

Some of CNN’s television operations, including the network’s prime-time schedule, are produced from the company’s new offices in New York’s Hudson Yards development.

In his memo, Desroches stressed that the move should in no way suggest that WarnerMedia is less committed to Atlanta, noting renovations have already taken place in the Techwood offices.

Amazon is about to make a huge change to Prime Video

Another job listing seems to pull back the curtain on at least some of that ambition: “We are seeking an experienced Product Manager for the Prime Video Linear TV team to redefine how customers watch 24/7 linear broadcast TV content.

According to Protocol, Amazon is planning to bring a live TV service to Prime Video.

According to Amazon’s job listings, the company wants to build “next gen linear catalog systems to provide best-in-class Linear TV experience to Prime Video customers.”

Amazon Prime Video may soon add live TV channels, according to a number of recent job listings and an industry source that spoke to Protocol.

UPDATE | 6:14 PM: Amazon reached out in an email to clarify that there is nothing new in the works as the original Protocol report suggests, explaining that the job postings are for teams that currently support the “hundreds of live TV stations around the world” that are already part of Prime Video started covering video games and technology in college as a hobby, but it quickly became clear to him that this was what he wanted to do for a living.

Yes, the birth certificate proves Elon Musk and Grimes' baby is legally named X AE A-XII

If there was any doubt left, billionaire Elon Musk and musician Grimes legally, actually, 100 percent named their child X AE A-XII.

"X" being the kid's first name, and "AE A-XII" their middle, and "Musk" their last.

X AE A-XII is actually a slight shift from what Musk first announced — he initially said the name was X Æ A-12 — because California doesn't allow special symbols or numbers in a legal name.

"First of all, my partner is the one who, mostly, actually came up with the name," Musk told Joe Rogan on the comedian's podcast last month.

"I mean it's just X, the letter X," Musk said.

Bob and Prickle is a blaster with real pace

Bob and Prickle is a blaster with to are Bob and Prickle?

Honestly I have no idea, but in the early days of Steam's summer Game Festival, when the store is filled with hundreds of new demos, it's Bob and Prickle I have been spending time with.

I am terrible at Bob and Prickle so I can't tell you what comes next, but I can tell you that it's largely the work of Sedat Güç, a 20-year-old designer from Istanbul who's been making games since he was 14.

Bob and Prickle has been in development for two years and is being made entirely without a game engine.

Oh yes, and Bob is an amateur hero who acts without thinking and Prickle is a chatty cactus who sadly doesn't make it into the demo, so I guess I do have something of an idea of who these two are after all.

Big move: OnePlus, Samsung to make smart TVs in India

For OnePlus, this is a major decision to manufacture locally as it had managed its TV sales in India till now through imports from China.

Samsung had resumed manufacture in India early this year (January) after it had halted its production in October 2018 in the light of 5% import duties on smart TV panels.

OnePlus launched its TVs in India last July, and the TVs sold so far were imported from China.

On the other hand, OnePlus will begin domestic production of TVs in India for the first time ever.

Samsung and OnePlus opting for local manufacture is being seen as major shot in the arm for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clarion call for building Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India).

NASA astronaut Leland Melvin told Bill Nye that a police officer came close to ending his career before it even started

Leland Melvin — a Black astronaut, engineer, and NFL football player — recently hosted NASA TV's coverage of the first crewed rocket launch by SpaceX on May 30.

"I was in a car with my girlfriend after graduation, and a police officer rolls up on us," Melvin told Nye, each of whom are friends, in a YouTube video published by the Planetary Society.

SpaceX Nye and Melvin spoke about two weeks after he drove down to Cape Canaveral to witness SpaceX launch its first people into space: NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley.

But after a scrubbed launch attempt on May 27 — as the US was reeling with protests over a white police officer's killing of George Floyd, a Black man, just two days earlier (among other killings earlier in the year) — Melvin stepped onto Cocoa Beach in Florida to record his thoughts in a video he later uploaded to Instagram.

There's a pandemic now against Black men in this country, and I truly feel that it's hatred, it's evil, it's racism — it's all of these things — but it's the good people beside these people [who] are complicit, that allow this continue to go on," Melvin said in the video, which was later highlighted in a story.

Open - Source 3D/Compute Finally Materializing For NVIDIA Volta / Turing GPUs

Meanwhile we still hold out some hope for NVIDIA's 2020 open-source play but for now this Volta/Turing support like Pascal and Maxwell is largely for those that don't mind an open-source driver needing signed binary microcode and most pressing for usability is the low performance due to being bound to severely crippled clock frequencies.

That basically makes Nouveau still unusable for recent generations of NVIDIA graphics cards on this open-source Linux driver.

Up to now the Mesa support hasn't went beyond Pascal while with these likely soon-to-be-merged patches, Volta and Turing can begin seeing OpenGL and OpenCL support when running on a recent Linux kernel -- and paired with NVIDIA's signed binary-only microcode images needed for hardware acceleration. But besides the microcode mess, there still is the number one limitation for Nouveau that's been present since the GTX 900 "Maxwell" series and remains with Volta/Turing: no re-clocking support for being able to work past the initial and very low boot clock frequencies.

That is finally changing with pending Mesa patches.Nouveau's Ben Skeggs of Red Hat opened a merge request on Monday for adding the Volta and Turing support to the Nouveau NVC0 Gallium3D driver.

The open-source Nouveau kernel driver has supported Volta GPUs for some time and since Linux 5.6 also supported open-source initialization of Turing GPUs for hardware acceleration.

EA Play Live delays a week to make space for “important voices being heard around the world

Electronic Arts are making room for “important voices being heard,” I assume in the Black Lives Matter movement though they don’t name it, by delaying their EA Play Live event by a week.

Other online events have done the same this week, leaving space for the public to protest police brutality and other injustices faced by Black people before they encourage a return to discussing their game lineup.

EA Play Live was originally scheduled for Thursday, June 11th.

The Guerilla Collective have delayed their event, opting to spend this Sunday, June 7th celebrating Black game developers and games with Black protagonists.

EA haven’t said yet what we’ll see during their event, though we can probably expect some bigger announcements as this takes the place of a formal E3 event.

K-pop fans are flooding QAnon hashtags with memes and fancams

Just about a week after overwhelming a Dallas police "snitch" app with memes and fancams, K-pop fans are now flooding QAnon hashtags with fancams, videos, and memes.

After the hacker group Anonymous called for spamming QAnon hashtags, K-pop stans rushed in to do their part.

If you don't know anything about K-pop — Korean pop bands — just know they have massive amounts of fans who hold the power to make literally everything go viral.

If you search common QAnon hashtags on Twitter, like #qanon and #WWG1WGA — which stands for "where we go one, we go all" — there is some typical conspiracy nonsense but also lots and lots of K-pop stuff.

It just goes to show you: QAnon might be a powerful online conspiracy, but K-pop stans are a powerful online force with the ability to overwhelm conversations and change the dialogue.

State-Backed Hackers Targeted Trump, Biden US Presidential Campaigns: Google

Neither the Biden nor the Trump campaign would not say how many staffers were targeted, when the attempts took place or whether the phishing was successful.

His tweet referred to the Russian hacking of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign and subsequent online release of internal emails — some doctored — that US investigators determined sought to assist the Trump campaign.

Huntley said a Chinese group known as Hurricane Panda targeted Trump campaign staffers while an Iranian outfit known as Charming Kitten had attempted to breach accounts of Biden campaign workers.

Google said state-backed hackers have targeted the campaigns of both President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, although it saw no evidence that the phishing attempts were successful.

“We are aware of reports from Google that a foreign actor has made unsuccessful attempts to access the personal email accounts of campaign staff," it said in a statement.

Rockstar shuts off GTA Online & Red Dead Online during Floyd memorial

Several game publishers and developers have expressed their support for the Black Lives Matter movement and sympathy for the protesters and the victims of racial injustice.

Rockstar’s parent company, Take Two Interactive, have also shut down other games it controls, such as NBA 2K.

Access to the games remained offline for the duration of the memorial.

Rockstar Games today cut off access to its online games — namely Red Dead Online and GTA Online — in order “honor the legacy of George Floyd,” whose memorial took place at the same time.

Gamers, unfortunately, still have our bad apples who throw around racial slurs and the memorial would almost certainly draw them out.

Michael Ricci, a spokesperson for Hogan, said earlier this week that 116 Maryland National Guard members were stationed on the National Mall to support U.S. Capitol Police.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Members of Maryland’s National Guard are in the District of Columbia only to patrol monuments and have not been involved in altercations with protesters in the nation’s capital, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Wednesday.

“I’m incredibly proud that during this difficult time, the people of Baltimore city have set an example for the rest of America,” Hogan said, thanking local officials, police and the Maryland National Guard.
