Norfolk Southern COO Wheeler to retire, names Union Pacific VP as replacement

NSC, +1.45% said Monday that Chief Operating Officer Michael Wheeler will retire, after more than four years in the role.
The rail road company said Cindy Sanborn will succeed Wheeler as COO, effective Sept. 1.
Wheeler became COO on Feb. 1, 2016, and Sanborn joins the company from fellow rail operator Union Pacific Corp.
Norfolk Southern's stock, which rose 1.4% in morning trading, has slipped 2.3% year to date, while the Dow Jones Transportation Average DJT, +0.87% has lost 9.8% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.34% has declined 6.9%.
