A fire that sent a plume of black smoke into the air burned down a shed at a home in San Diego's Serra Mesa neighborhood Sunday, fire officials said.

The fire had fully engulfed the shed, adjacent to the garage of the house on Sovereign Road east of Sandrock Road, officials said.

Fire crews put out the fire within 15 minutes.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Battalion Chief Ted Morran said embers in a fire pit placed next to the shed after it was used Saturday night likely started the fire.

The fire caused "some" damage to the exterior of the garage and "minimal" damage to a neighboring house, Morran told OnScene TV.
